KIDS
RACING PROGRAM
What do you do if you are a parent, love to ski,
enjoy racing, taught your two kids to ski, and they want to race just like Mom
and Dad? Ship them off to a race
camp? NO! You start your own kids
racing program so you can keep skiing together!
And that's exactly what happened.
Initially begun by two racing
parents for those very reasons, 2002 was the first year Kids Racing became a part of
the Cleveland Metro Ski Council (CMSC).
The
goal is to give families the opportunity to share the excitement of racing,
cheer each other on, and give them one more ski day together. Added
benefits include:
- Young families who have never belonged to a ski
club can meet other skiing families
- Former ski club members who are now raising
families return to CMSC
- Having races scheduled on the same days as the CMSC
adult races keeps parents racing
Kids
Racing Fun Facts:
- Open to skiers and snowboarders between the ages of 4 and 17 (whose parent or guardian belong to a CMSC ski club)
- Kids compete in groups based on their age and
ability.
- Never-ever racers receive a medal for their first
race. They are then placed in a race class with kids of the same
ability.
- Trophies (for 1st, 2nd and 3rd
places) and prizes are awarded at the base of the race course immediately after
the race—just like in the Olympics!
-
Race fees are between $5 and $8 per racer, per race
-
Seven races are scheduled this year,
two in the
Cleveland area, and five in Western New York on the same day as the CMSC adult
races
