CMSC ADULT RACING

Geiger's Rookie Race Challenge info below!

We feel we have the best adult amateur-racing program in the United States.  Period!

CMSC skiers and snowboarders compete against others of their own ability and sex (male and female boarders compete together) and are “promoted” as their skill level increases.  That’s what sets us apart from other adult programs – we don’t use a handicap system.

Our 400 plus racers (skiers and snowboarders) run the gamut from beginners to experts and Masters racers.  And we all have fun.

Interested?  Our qualifications are few.  You must:

  • Be 18 years old or older

  • Be a member of a Cleveland Metro Ski Club that has a race team (Clubs are listed below)

  • Be ready, willing and able to have fun

Type of Courses:

Our skiers run slalom, giant slalom, super long giant slalom courses, dual elimination and dual format.  The courses are set on intermediate and advanced slopes, depending on your skill class, and are very similar to what you see in the World Cup.  How cool is that?

Snowboarders run slalom and giant slalom  courses.

Flexible Schedule:

Our race program has two series, the Weekend Race Series and the Wednesday Night Race Series.

Weekends:  Races are scheduled most weekends in western New York and in Cleveland.  Participants can race in any or all races, earning points for themselves and their own ski club race teams.

The crown jewel of our program is Combined Race Weekend, featuring a super long giant slalom and a giant slalom on Saturday, with a slalom held on Sunday.  Racers compete for the coveted Individual Combined Trophy, and earn points for the Team Combined Trophy.  Always an exciting weekend.

Wednesday Nights: On seven Wednesday nights during January and February, racers compete at Boston Mills Ski Resort on a variety of courses. After the final race, we'll have a party and awards.  Sign up today!  Down load Flyer.

GEIGER’S ROOKIE RACER CHALLENGE IS BACK FOR 2009:  CMSC Adult Race Program’s "Geiger's Rookie Race Challenge" is back! We’ve partnered with Geiger’s of Lakewood/Geiger’s Ski & Sport Haus to give never-ever racers and "old" racers who haven’t raced in a while a chance to experience the excitement, camaraderie and thrills of ski racing -- CMSC style.  See attached flyer for details.  For CMSC ski club members only.

There were 24 racers that Qualified Jan 7, 2009.  The winner of the $50.00 gift certificate from Geiger's was Chris Cirell of The Highlander's Ski Club.

All skiers who try racing for the first time are called "qualifiers."  On the day they qualify, all qualifying skiers will be entered into a drawing for a Geiger's gift certificate.  For the qualifying race Jan. 7 at Boston Mills, one $50 certificate will be awarded.  At other CMSC races, a $25 gift certificate will be awarded.  For every race a rookie racer races after that, his or her name will be entered into a drawing for a $500 Geiger's gift certificate which will be awarded at the Racers Banquet on April 25, 2009.  The more races a rookie racer attends, the greater his/her chances are to win the Grand Prize. The winner must be present at the April 25 Racers Banquet, Reinecker’s Party Center, to win the gift certificate. Banquet details are coming.

If your CMSC ski club does not have a race chair,  call or email CMSC Co-race chairs Frank Houdek (216-403-9191) or Bootsie Ricketts (330-637-0179).  If your CMSC ski club HAS a race chair, please contact him or her for details.
